The Police Authority comprises of 17 members:
Nine County Councillors, at least one Magistrate and five independent members.

County Councillors
Hertfordshire County Council appoints all nine county councillors annually at its Annual General Meeting, which is held in May. These are appointed in proportion to the number of seats held by each political party. Currently there are five Conservative councillors, two Labour councillors and two Liberal Democrat councillors on the Police Authority.
