NEW HERTFORD POLICE STATION GETS THE GO-AHEAD!
Solartron House in Hale Road will become the new Hertford police station following planning approval by East Herts District Council on July 18.
Chair of Hertfordshire Police Authority, Ian Laidlaw-Dickson, added: “If all goes to plan, Solartron House could be operational by January next year and provide people with a much improved access to police services and a more visible police presence in the town. We are continuing our search for a site for the new Ware police facility and are currently looking at a number of options.”
The Police Authority agreed last October to market and sell the current Hertford and Ware site and replace it with two new police facilities, and is part of a wider investment across the county aimed at improving public access and police visibility. The Hertford and Ware station will remain open until any replacement facilities are fully operational.
In addition, Hoddesdon Police station has recently become fully operational with eight new cells added to the existing eight cells in the custody area.
Chief Superintendent Al Thomas, Eastern Area Commander, said: “We are very pleased that the planning application for the change of use of the Hertford site has been approved. This is a very positive outcome and it will enable us to continue to deliver a high standard of policing to the communities we serve.
“Our work with the Police Authority has given us the opportunity of having a police station in the heart of the town, making us more accessible and able to continue to deliver a strong service to the people of Hertford.”
