ASSISTANT CHIEF CONSTABLE MOVES UP THE LADDER

Assistant Chief Constable Simon Parr has moved up the ladder at Hertfordshire Constabulary, following his appointment to Deputy Chief Constable.

The Police Authority made its decision this week after an intensive two-day recruitment process. “The standard of applicants was extremely high,” said Chair of Hertfordshire Police Authority, Ian Laidlaw-Dickson. “Simon should be very proud of his achievement in being selected and our sincere congratulations and best wishes go to him.

“We were impressed by Simon’s skills, strengths and enthusiasm, not just for policing but for Hertfordshire in particular, and feel his experience will greatly benefit the Constabulary and, in particular, the Chief Officer team.”

Simon’s appointment follows the departure of DCC Simon Ash, who takes up the reins as Chief Constable of Suffolk.

Simon joined Hertfordshire as Assistant Chief Constable in January 2004, having previously spent 20 years with Sussex Police.

“I am delighted to be given the opportunity to serve Hertfordshire as its Deputy Chief Constable and will continue with my commitment to making the county safer and to making people feel safer in the county,” said Simon.

Simon has recently taken over responsibility for Corporate Services, which includes human resources, organisational planning and development and professional standards. Previously, he was in charge of Operational Support, which included firearms response, operations room and other specialist teams. Whilst at Hertfordshire, he has also been responsible for tackling serious and organised crime and the investigation of murder and other serious offences.

He has gained extensive experience in the management of major incidents, including the explosion and fire at Buncefield in December 2005 and, during his time at Sussex, the Lewes floods in 2000. He is currently involved nationally in the design and delivery of critical incident command training for senior officers, and the ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) representative for forces involved in delivery of Olympic events outside the capital.

Chief Constable Frank Whiteley said: “Simon’s considerable skills and his notable contribution to the development of policing in Hertfordshire over the past four years have been recognised and rewarded. I am looking forward to working with him and the new Chief Officer team to continue to build on the Force’s successes of the past years and continue to make Hertfordshire a safer county.”

Simon is a Member of Windsor Leadership Trust, a charitable organisation designed to develop leaders across private and public sector in Britain.

He has an active role in coaching youth rugby, is a member of London Wasps RFC, a keen mountain biker and has a lifelong love of music. Simon is married, with three children.
