POLICE AUTHORITY PRESENTS ITS COMMUNITY SAFETY AWARDS
The exceptional contributions to community safety made by police officers and the public were acknowledged on Monday (4th December) at Hertfordshire Police Authority’s Community Safety Awards Ceremony at Knebworth Barns.
Chairman of Hertfordshire Police Authority, Ian Laidlaw-Dickson, said:
“These awards pay tribute to the people across Hertfordshire who have gone that extra mile to make their communities a safer and more pleasant place in which to live. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many people, from all walks of life, who volunteer to give up their time freely for the good of their neighbours and communities”.
There were two categories of award – the Community Safety Award and the Community Safety Officer Award, with a winner from each of the three policing areas in each category receiving a trophy and £1,000 to spend on a community safety project in their local area. All 31 finalists from across Hertfordshire received a certificate. The winners are:-
Western Area
Community Safety Award – Callum Irving. Callum has been recognised for his positive efforts in reducing anti-social behaviour by setting up an amateur rugby league division across areas of Hemel Hempstead, improving young people’s self-esteem and pride. Callum is a totally committed person who has the respect of the young people he coaches. “We feel that Callum’s valuable work in key areas of Hemel Hempstead, and his commitment and dedication, deserves recognition”, said Clive Townsley, Dacorum Community Safety Co-ordinator.
Community Safety Officer Award – PCSO Duncan Williamson. Duncan’s dedication and reassuring presence in West Watford has had a big impact on local residents and made the whole community feel safer. His caring, responsive and high profile policing style has made Duncan a familiar and respected figure with young and elderly alike. “ Duncan is seen everywhere, walks miles, gets drenched when it rains but is there when you need him”, said Mrs Moore, a grateful resident who nominated Duncan for the award.
It was good to see so many finalists, their guests, and those who nominated them at the ceremony. These awards are just part of Hertfordshire Police Authority’s continued commitment to community safety”, added Ian Laidlaw-Dickson.
