POLICE AUTHORITY PRESENTS ITS COMMUNITY SAFETY AWARDS (EASTERN AREA)
The exceptional contributions to community safety made by police officers and the public were acknowledged on Monday (4th December) at Hertfordshire Police Authority’s Community Safety Awards Ceremony at Knebworth Barns.
Chair of Hertfordshire Police Authority, Ian Laidlaw-Dickson, said:
“These awards pay tribute to the people across Hertfordshire who have gone that extra mile to make their communities a safer and more pleasant place in which to live. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many people, from all walks of life, who volunteer to give up their time freely for the good of their neighbours and communities”.
There were two categories of award – the Community Safety Award and the Community Safety Officer Award, with a winner from each of the three policing areas in each category receiving a trophy and £1,000 to spend on a community safety project in their local area. All 31 finalists from across Hertfordshire received a certificate. The winners are:-
Eastern Area
Community Safety Award – Arthur Howard. Arthur has spent an enormous amount of effort on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch in Stevenage and has been chairman of the Stevenage NHW Forum for 11 years. Arthur also set up ‘Community Crew’ the county’s first Neighbourhood Watch scheme for 11-15 year olds, and created a NHW website that is the envy of the county. “Arthur may have been described as a rough diamond, but he’s certainly a precious gem for Stevenage” said Christine Adey, Police Authority member.
Community Safety Officer Award – PCSO Mandy Miller. Mandy was nominated for her exceptional work in Sele, Hertford. She dealt with problems of bad behaviour and shoplifting, and her patience and perseverance has given residents a better quality of life and helped resolve a long running problem with bikers on a neighbouring field. “Mandy is an energetic young lady who has put her heart and soul into our area”, said Pam Grethe, Hertford Town Councillor.
“It was good to see so many finalists, their guests, and those who nominated them at the ceremony. These awards are just part of Hertfordshire Police Authority’s continued commitment to community safety”, added Ian Laidlaw-Dickson.
