POLICE AUTHORITY PRESENT ITS COMMUNITY SAFETY AWARDS
The exceptional contributions to community safety made by police officers and the public were acknowledged on Monday (4th December) at Hertfordshire Police Authority’s Community Safety Awards Ceremony at Knebworth Barns.
Chair of Hertfordshire Police Authority, Ian Laidlaw-Dickson, said:
“These awards pay tribute to the people across Hertfordshire who have gone that extra mile to make their communities a safer and more pleasant place in which to live. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many people, from all walks of life, who volunteer to give up their time freely for the good of their neighbours and communities”.
There were two categories of award – the Community Safety Award and the Community Safety Officer Award, with a winner from each of the three policing areas in each category receiving a trophy and £1,000 to spend on a community safety project in their local area. All 31 finalists from across Hertfordshire received a certificate. The winners are:-
Central Area
Community Safety Award – Mark Fielding. Mark, a family man, gave up many hours of his time as the unpaid head of the Bushey Synagogue security operation. Mark made numerous improvements over the years and secured the help of additional volunteers to ensure the operation’s continued success.
“I feel that Mark should be recognised for the many hours he put in working on this selfless and often thankless task, including being called out at night on many occasions”, said Rob Marco, nominating Mark for his award.
Community Safety Officer Award – Sergeant Lewis Ducket. Lewis was praised by Harpenden Town Council for his outstanding partnership work and commitment to community safety for all residents. This included working with young people on diversionary activity projects, including a moped riding training scheme for previous nuisance riders. “We are very proud of the partnership working developed with Sergeant Lewis Ducket, which is a positive model now being quoted for good practice throughout Hertfordshire”, said Anita Pack, Harpenden Town Council.
“It was good to see so many finalists, their guests, and those who nominated them at the ceremony. These awards are just part of Hertfordshire Police Authority’s continued commitment to community safety”, added Ian Laidlaw-Dickson.
