POLICE AUTHORITY AND CONSTABULARY RESPOND TO FORCE MERGERS ANNOUNCEMENT
HERTFORDSHIRE Police Authority and Constabulary have responded to Home Office announcements that proposed force mergers are unlikely to go ahead as planned.
Chairman of Hertfordshire Police Authority Ian Laidlaw – Dickson said: “We have always agreed that change is necessary to improve the level of protective services in the county but have not been convinced that merging forces would provide the solution.
“We welcome this move by Government as it will enable us to assess fully all the options and find the best way forward for Hertfordshire.”
Chief Constable Frank Whiteley said: “We have been working with Bedfordshire and Essex to look at opportunities for better joint working and will continue to look for ways of improving all services.
“We remain committed to providing the best possible police services for the people of Hertfordshire to meet their needs.”
