POLICE CHIEF AWARDED QUEENS POLICE MEDAL
Chief Constable of Hertfordshire Constabulary, Frank Whiteley, has been awarded the Queens Police Medal (QPM) in the Birthday Honours list.
Chairman of Hertfordshire Police Authority, Ian Laidlaw-Dickson, said: “I’m sure all members will join me in congratulating Frank on receiving the QPM. He has been with the Constabulary for almost two years and, during that time, has brought his skill, knowledge and commitment to bear on the development of the Force. He has earned the respect of officers, staff and colleagues and his award is well-deserved.”
Frank was appointed Chief Constable of Hertfordshire in October 2004, having previously been Deputy Chief Constable of Northamptonshire Police. He started his career with Cambridgeshire Constabulary, joining the force in 1978 directly from Cambridge University.
Chief Constable Frank Whiteley QPM said: “I feel very honoured to be awarded the QPM. However, policing is all about team work and partnership and I would see this award more appropriately as recognition of the work of the many colleagues who have assisted me, as well as recognising the support and understanding of my wife, Debbie and family.”
His is currently the ACPO (Association of Police Officers) national lead on Neighbourhood Watch and chairs the ACPO Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) Steering Group. Whilst at Northamptonshire, he led on the high profile arrangements for the burial of Princess Diana in 1997, the British Grand Prix, the Easter Floods of 1998 and, more recently, the fuel crisis.
