POLICE CHAIRMAN AND VICE CHAIRMAN APPOINTED

Ian Laidlaw-Dickson was today (Friday) re-appointed Chairman by a unanimous vote at Hertfordshire Police Authority’s Annual General Meeting in Hertford. Independent member, Brenda Griffiths, takes over from Robin Lipscombe JP as Vice-Chairman.

“I would like to thank all my colleagues for the continued confidence that they have placed in me,” said Ian. “With police force restructuring firmly on the agenda, the Authority is going to have an even more challenging time ahead and it is important that we rise to those challenges and, at the same time, continue to make sure that the people of Hertfordshire get the best police service that meets their needs.

“Brenda brings with her a wide range of skills and experience and I look forward to her support over the coming year. I would also like to thank our out-going Vice-Chairman, Robin, for all the knowledge and expertise that he brought to the role over the past three years and wish him a speedy recovery from his operation (See Editors Note).”

Ian Laidlaw-Dickson has been with the Authority since it was set up in 1995 and was Vice-Chairman for six years prior to being appointed Chairman in 2003. A retired manager for BT, he is a Labour County Councillor for Hemel Hempstead and Leader of the Labour Group. He lives in Hemel Hempstead with his partner, Julia, and daughter Rebecca, 23, and has lived in the county for over 40 years.

Brenda said: “I am delighted to be given this exciting opportunity and look forward to working with the Chairman and colleagues in the Authority and Constabulary to influence, in a constructive way, the direction of policing in Hertfordshire. I hope to use my special interests of Human Resources and Professional Standards to good effect in the coming months to ensure that Hertfordshire is well represented in this rapidly evolving environment. Our people are so important and delivery to the highest professional standards essential.”

Brenda is a registered nurse with particular interest in occupational health and safety . She is currently on an NHS career break for the duration of her appointment to the Police Authority. She was appointed in 2003 and also has a particular interest in Neighbourhood Watch. She lives in Radlett with her husband, Paul, and their three sons.

County Councillor David Beatty continues to fill the vacancy left by the death of Robert Ellis earlier this year.
