Vice-Chairman, Ian Laidlaw-Dickson took over the leading role on Friday (23 May) when he was appointed Chairman of Hertfordshire Police Authority.

Ian, 55, has been with the Authority since it was set up in 1995 and has been its Vice-Chairman for the past six years – a post now taken up by Robin Lipscombe, JP.

“As Vice-Chairman I have developed a good understanding and knowledge of the challenges we face, as well as a strong partnership with the Chief Constable and his officers,” said Ian. “I feel honoured to have the opportunity to lead the work of the Authority in the coming year in our endeavours to represent the public and to make sure that the police deliver the right kind of service, in the right way and at the right time.”

A retired manager for BT, Ian is Labour County Councillor for Hemel Hempstead and Deputy Leader of the Labour Group. He lives with his partner, Julia, and daughter Rebecca, 20, in Hemel Hempstead, having lived in the county for over 40 years.

Vice-Chairman, Robin Lipscombe, 59, has been a member of the Police Authority since 1999, and lived in Hertfordshire since the age of five. He is one of three magistrate members on the Authority and sits on the North Herts Bench and is a member of the Parole Board of England and Wales. He lives in Ashwell with his wife, Eve.

Former Managing Director of a local technology company, Robin said: “I am delighted to be appointed and look forward to working closely with Ian and my other colleagues on the Police Authority and the Constabulary.”
