Vice-Chairman, Ian Laidlaw-Dickson took over the leading role
on Friday (23 May) when he was appointed Chairman of Hertfordshire
Police Authority.
Ian, 55, has been with the Authority since it was set up in 1995
and has been its Vice-Chairman for the past six years – a
post now taken up by Robin Lipscombe, JP.
“As Vice-Chairman I have developed a good understanding
and knowledge of the challenges we face, as well as a strong partnership
with the Chief Constable and his officers,” said Ian. “I
feel honoured to have the opportunity to lead the work of the Authority
in the coming year in our endeavours to represent the public and
to make sure that the police deliver the right kind of service,
in the right way and at the right time.”
A retired manager for BT, Ian is Labour County Councillor for
Hemel Hempstead and Deputy Leader of the Labour Group. He lives
with his partner, Julia, and daughter Rebecca, 20, in Hemel Hempstead,
having lived in the county for over 40 years.
Vice-Chairman, Robin Lipscombe, 59, has been a member of the Police
Authority since 1999, and lived in Hertfordshire since the age of
five. He is one of three magistrate members on the Authority and
sits on the North Herts Bench and is a member of the Parole Board
of England and Wales. He lives in Ashwell with his wife, Eve.
Former Managing Director of a local technology company, Robin
said: “I am delighted to be appointed and look forward to
working closely with Ian and my other colleagues on the Police Authority
and the Constabulary.”
Robin was also appointed as Chairman of Strategy Committee, as
part of a major re-shaping of the Police Authority that includes:
