POLICE AUTHORITY INVESTMENT PROVIDES GREATER POLICE NUMBERS FOR HERTFORDSHIRE

A Home Office report issued today (Thursday 31st) shows that police numbers remain at record levels in Hertfordshire, with the county having 2,198 officers in September 2007.

At the same time the county also had 248 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) – a 50% increase on the number of PCSOs since September 2006.

The report, on Police Force Staffing, puts Hertfordshire above the national increase in police officer numbers.

Ian Laidlaw-Dickson , Chair of Herts Police Authority said: "The Police Authority has recognised the need to invest to maintain effective levels of Police Officers, PCSOs, Police Specials and Police staff in Hertfordshire and we constantly monitor and challenge the Constabulary to ensure that they are used efficiently and effectively. We believe that the lower levels of crime we enjoy in our county, and the recent falls in recorded crime numbers, demonstrate that policing in Herts is constantly improving.”
