The list to the right shows all the police authority committees and our meeting schedule. Clicking on the relevant item will provide you with the list of committee members, terms of reference and meeting dates. Members of the public may normally attend all meetings of Hertfordshire Police Authority. Full Authority
The list below details those matters that are dealt with by the full Police Authority, which meets five times a year. It is chaired by Ian Laidlaw-Dickson and the Vice Chair is Richard Smith.

This is not intended to be a comprehensive list of the powers and duties of the Authority, but details those issues specifically not delegated to any of the Authority's Committees or Working Groups.

To ensure the maintenance of an efficient and effective police force for the area, and to consider any matters of policy or strategy which will enable this duty to be performed.

   
To consider and approve the annual capital and revenue budget and set the precept to be levied in the area.
   
Having regard to the national objectives issued by the Secretary of State, to consider and approve before the beginning of the financial year, in consultation with the Chief Constable and the local community, local objectives and performance targets for policing in the area.
   
To consider, approve, issue and monitor a Policing Plan, as drafted by the Chief Constable, setting out the proposed arrangements for the policing of the Authority's area and including the Best Value Performance Plan.
   
To consider, approve and issue an Annual Report, including an assessment of the extent to which the Policing Plan for the previous year has been carried out.
   
To receive the Chief Constable's Annual Report.
   
To receive and comment on, and invite the Chief Constable to comment on, Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary's reports and to publish such comments.
   
To receive and comment on the Management Letter from the external Auditor.
